Hidden Beau-T Tools: The Beauty Blender vs The Real Technique Sponge

Happy Fri-yay Lovelies! Today's post is slightly different because on Hidden Beau-T I've reviewed makeup, perfumes/fragrances, skincare products ect but I have never reviewed makeup/beauty tools. I plan to do more reviews on products we use to help us when it comes to beauty whether its skincare or makeup application because their equally as important.

So I usually use makeup brushes to apply my makeup but since I've been doing my makeup a lot more I am realising that an artist sometimes is as good as the brush or tools he or she uses. Also since I've been watching YouTube and doing more makeup looks I've noticed that sometimes its not the makeup quality or what I'm doing that affects the end results sometimes its actually the brush or sponge I am using. So I have literally got rid of a lot of brushes and have bought new ones as well decided to try some sponges.  There was so many mixed reviews on the Beauty Blender and The Real Techniques Sponge that I decided to try both of them.

THE BEAUTY BLENDER

Even before I started my blog and I was doing a MUA course the beauty blender was creating quite the stir amongst the Internet. With a 6 time award winning title under its belt most makeup artist that were high profile would have one of these in their kit. Retailing at £16.00 and can be purchased at Cult Beauty!  I have always wanted one.

REAL TECHNIQUES SPONGE
Later there was another stir on the internet about another sponge that was making quite an impression in the Beauty Industry and that sponge is The Real Techniques Sponge. The Real Techniques Sponge by Sam and Nic with an even cheaper price tag started to receive as much great reviews as the Beauty Blender if not more with a few mix reviews as to the pro's and cons when they are compared to each other.  Both these sponges retail at an original price of £9.99 for two sponges at and £5.99 for 1 sponge at various shops physical and online Amazon, Superdrug, Boots ect. Despite the Real Techniques price tag reeled me in right away I really wanted to try both of them to see what they would be like.

THE APPLICATION

So Initially when I thought about getting a makeup sponge I thought about my dark circles because my brush just wasn't blending in my concealer the way I wanted it and after watching Michelle Phan and Teaira Walker on Youtube I was convinced I needed a sponge in my life. So the concealer I used was the La Girl Concealer in the shade orange and then I used the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation.

MY THOUGHTS ON USING BOTH OF THEM

When it came to using the beauty blender I thought it took a little bit longer to blend my concealer than the real techniques sponge however the shape of the Beauty Blender the pointed side of the tear drop made it easier for me to get concealer and foundation better under my eye and in my opinion it looked slightly more seamless once blended.

I find with the flat end of the Real Techniques sponge blending your foundation in was a lot quicker and the end results for both the Beauty Blender and The Real Techniques Sponge were practically the same. The Beauty Blender had instructions to dampen it with some water while the real techniques sponge didn't have that instruction so I'm not sure if it would make a difference dampened or not.  Because of how the Beauty Blender is shaped and the feel of it you can roll it around all of your face. The Real Techniques Sponge is slightly on the clunky side where shape is concerned so you have to manoeuvre a little bit more in terms of application. However, contouring and highlighting was a dream with the real technique sponge so I just find that it does a great job of picking and dispensing product whether its foundation, concealer so it makes it so much more quicker. So if you'd like to save yourself a bit of many for the same results the Real techniques sponge is a definite winner but I did like both these sponges for different reasons.

Also Superdrug is doing a sale their currently selling 2 packs of beauty blenders for £7.49 that's about £3.75 each and they have a wide range of Real Technique Sponges discounted and you can find them Here!. So grab them before the offer ends...

Have a great weekend!

  2. Great post, I love my Beauty Blender but I have a few RT sponges as back ups so I use them both. My preference is the Beauty Blender because of how soft it is and I find my foundation goes on better with it. That said, I'm more than happy using the RT ones too :)

  6. I have tried both. After using Real Techniques I can't justify to spend $ 20 to buy beauty blender again. Loreal new sponge is also pretty good

  8. I've used the RT sponge and I love it but because I use my brushes more to apply my foundation, I can't justify the cost of the Beauty Blender. Great comparison review though because now I don't feel I'm missing out too much.

  9. I've never tried a beauty blended. I'm obsessed with the real techniques one so feel there is not point! I use mine damp and it works like a dream! I think the real technique sponge also gets better the more you use it!

  12. Love this review. I love my RT sponge and just can't justify buying and spending the money on a Beauty Blender any more. It's just so pricey...

    1. Thankyou Laura! I totally get it I am literally not using my BB sponge as much because I want it to last because its really pricey to buy a replacement.Saying that its good to know that the RT does just a good of a job if I am on a tight budget and I can use it more frequently.

  15. I like both the sponges for different reasons, too, but the beauty blender wins out just a hair ahead of the real techniques one. I think it's because the beauty blender feels softer and more effortless on my face than the real techniques.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes I was so torn because of that reason because the Beauty Blender is soft you can roll it all around your face when applying your foundation, and when you dampen it the sponge gets even softer and blends your makeup so effortlessly.
